Ed Sheeran and Adekunle Gold might seem worlds apart. Seeing as one is one of the fastest rising singers in Nigeria and the other is a global phenomenon from the U. K. One thing they however have in common is the fact that they both predicted their success.
Three years ago, the only time Adekunle’s Gold could have meant something to you is if you were one of his twitter followers. Before fortune smiled on him through YBNL, he was a hustling artiste in every sense of the word, sculptor, graphic, and singer.
In a 2013 tweet he predicted that he was going to be a success and even made bold to ask his followers to save the picture,
“Ceramist, sculptor, brand developer, graphic artist, SINGER,” he wrote way back in 2013. “You’d agree that I’m a ‘man of the arts’. Save this picture. You’ll join me in saying my success story soonest”, his tweet read.
True to his words, Adekunle had one of the biggest songs of 2015. He won the Revelation of the year award at the 2015 AFRIMA. The year also saw him become a land owner, courtsey of Beat awards of Lagos which he won.At the just concluded Headies Awards, the ‘Shade’ singer beat the likes of Asa and Bez to Best Alternative Song award.
Like Adekunle Gold prior to his meteoric rise, Ed Sheeran was unknown. The Grammy nominee was a struggling drifter who didn’t have anywhere to live 2008 and the whole of 2009 and 2010. However in 2011 he got his act together and took to twitter to tell the world to watch out for him.
“Give me a few years,” Sheeran wrote, “I’ve got some big plans.”
